K. Huraa – Construction of Audio Visual Room

K. Huraa School’s project for establishment of an Audio Visual Room was hindered due to funding constraints faced in the implementation of the project. School’s plan was to renovate the living area of teachers’ quarters and construct joining area to add more space to the AV Room. The teachers’ quarters consist of a living room, 3 rooms and a kitchen. AFTF team visited K. Huraa School during mid October 2014 and met with officials of the School.

It is very likely that education system of Maldives is now based on the highly advanced technological devices. The school had already received furniture and equipment for the AV Room through donations, but the class was not set-up due to limited space in the school. AFTF decided to contribute to the construction of the audio visual room in order that the management can set up the devices received through donation and start the classes soon. This project was implemented with the assistance of AFTF and funds allocated for the project from the school budget.

The construction work of the audio visual room was awarded to a contractor and the work commenced on 12 March 2015 and was completed on 12 May 2015. In addition to supporting the construction work of the project, AFTF also donated air conditioning system to the audio visual room. The audio visual room will be fitted with AC, Smartboard and 3-D TV to make teachers and students more responsive regarding the highly advanced technological modes in relation with education.

The audio visual room will also be used for extra classes. School will also rent out audio visual room to activities of NGOs and to hold workshops and training programs. This will generate income for the maintenance of audio visual room and to the school.

A total number of 200 students and the teachers will benefit from the project.

This helped teachers in taking listening classes, and even when conducting meetings and have resulted in positive outcomes. In addition to this, AV room is planned to be used for extra classes. School will also rent out this room for different purposes to activities of NGO’s and to hold workshops and training programmes which in result, will benefit the school financially.
